Eaton Transmissions

How the Eaton Fuller line is organized, how to read the model number on your tag, and when a new or remanufactured unit makes more sense.

Eaton Fuller transmissions work in agriculture, delivery, construction, heavy haul, bus and coach, logging, mining, oil field, refuse, and towing and recovery. We stock new Eaton transmissions with same-day shipping on stock units, remanufacture Roadranger units in our own shop, and carry the parts to repair them.

The Eaton Fuller families

• Eaton mid-range. 5 and 6 speed transmissions for medium duty trucks.
• Eaton Fuller Roadranger heavy duty. Twin countershaft manual transmissions in 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 15 and 18 speeds for Class 8 tractors and heavy vocational trucks.
• Automated versions. Many Roadranger models also come as automated units, marked by a suffix such as -AS or -AS2 on the model number.
• Eaton Advantage series. A newer design aimed at reliability and fuel economy.

Reading the Eaton ID tag

Every Eaton Fuller transmission carries an ID tag on the case with the model, serial number and bill of material number. Take a photo of it before you call. The model tells us the family and speed count; the bill of material pins down your exact build, because two units with the same model can still differ in details.

How the model number breaks down, using RTLO-18918B as the example:

• The letters up front describe the design. RT means Roadranger with a twin countershaft. An O or an X (as in RTX-15710C) usually means the top gear is an overdrive.
• The first two digits are the torque rating class. A higher number is built for more engine torque.
• The last two digits are the forward speeds. RTLO-11610B is a 10 speed, RTLO-12713A is a 13 speed, and RTLO-18918B is an 18 speed.
• The letter after the digits is the design level, the B in RTLO-18918B.
• Anything after the last dash, such as -T2 or -AS2, marks a specific version, so read the whole string off the tag.

New or rebuilt

We stock new Eaton Fuller transmissions with same-day shipping on stock units. A rebuilt Eaton transmission from our shop is remanufactured with genuine Eaton components to the original factory specs. If the damage is limited, Eaton transmission parts may be all you need.
